Teaching Bio
Mezzo-soprano Meredith Ziegler is a voice teacher, pedagogue, and program leader known for her collaborative work with singers and her commitment to cultivating healthy, efficient, and expressive voices. Her teaching is grounded in a holistic understanding of the voice, one that recognizes the connection between mind, body, and artistic intention, and supports singers in building well-coordinated technique while cultivating their individual artistic voice.
Ms. Ziegler serves on the voice faculties of the University of Connecticut and Western Connecticut State University, where she teaches both undergraduate and graduate students. She works with singers across a wide range of goals, from aspiring professionals to future educators and those exploring their voice for personal growth. Her pedagogy centers on coordinated vocal function, efficient breath use while fostering independence, curiosity, and confidence. She values the individuality of each voice and guides students toward discovering their most authentic sound.
At Western Connecticut State University, she also serves as Voice Area Coordinator, supporting syllabi development, student placement, masterclasses, juries, and recruitment initiatives. Ms. Ziegler has created and taught coursework in vocal pedagogy and diction, and regularly presents workshops on performance anxiety, systematic song learning, and vocal health. In her studio, she creates an environment that is positive, honest, and collaborative, encouraging students to take risks, ask questions, and grow at their own pace.
Her teaching is informed by a strong foundation in voice science. In 2025, she earned a Certificate in Vocology from New York University, and she continues study with Christine Schneider at The Visceral Voice. Her professional development also includes training in Alexander Technique and languages, supporting a holistic, body-aware approach to singing instruction. In 2012, she was selected as a NATS Intern, where she studied with renowned teacher and singer, George Shirley.
Ms. Ziegler’s students have been accepted to leading conservatories and graduate programs, including The Juilliard School, Oberlin Conservatory, Eastman School of Music, New England Conservatory, Indiana University, Florida State University, and the University of Maryland. Her students have gone on to perform with organizations such as the New York Philharmonic, Semperoper Dresden, Merola Opera Program, Boston Lyric Opera, Aspen Opera Theater, Chautauqua Opera, and Opera Saratoga. Ms. Ziegler is also an active clinician, having presented masterclasses at institutions including Butler University, Troy University, Marshall University, the University of Rhode Island, The Hartt School, and Colgate University.
In addition to her teaching, Ms. Ziegler contributes to the field through scholarship and leadership. She has published in the Journal of Singing, presented for the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and currently serves as President of the Connecticut NATS Chapter. Ms. Ziegler holds a Master of Music in Voice and dual undergraduate degrees in Music and Music Education from the University of Connecticut.
